Northwest Yoga Feast 2019 Schedule

Northwest Yoga Feast is not only in the food but also in the variety of teachings we offer.  We celebrate the power of diversity as each teacher has a unique voice and style.  Yet each class shares a common intention, which is “BREATHE to heal and synchronize mind and body, to open the heart, so we learn how to love who and what we see”. Here is a look into some of the workshops you will find at the Feast. More to come!

Yoga

Essential Oils and Yoga Pratayhara, withdrawal of the senses, requires concentration and the ability to focus on the inner sensory and energetic experience of the body. To move into this state we will actually explore the senses - smell, taste, touch, feel the effect of Essential Oils and how they can help us inward with more ease. Half Hatha Yoga, half Restorative.

Yoga for Recovery Most of us are or should be in some form of recovery, from past trauma, addiction, abuse, disordered eating, mental wellness, workaholism, etc. Yoga informs our bodies that we are not what we are recovering from. We are so much than that and through the discovery of the Infinite within, we can make recovery that much more joyous. Expect a fiery practice, designed to build heat and purify thoughts, with reflections interwoven throughout.

Invoke the Wealth of the Universe To fully embody what it means to be prosperous is to be overflowing with an ‘attitude of gratitude’ for the precious gift of life. In order to feel utterly abundant we must be fully in touch with the spirit of generosity. Sharing selflessly with others, for the sheer joy of giving opens us up to receiving cosmic gifts from the universe that money can’t buy! We will prepare the body with surya namaskar and practice two kriyas as taught by Yogi Bhajan designed to tap into our natural abundance potential. The session will be mentally and physically challenging but will not require any former Kundalini Yoga experience, Just will power, stamina and determination. The more energy and commitment you put in, the greater the benefits and the deeper the healing will penetrate. In both kriyas we will explore the Naad (sacred sound current) in conjunction with movements specifically designed to correct the psyche and unlock hidden potential. The calm after the storm will be a luxurious gong and Himalayan bowl bath to integrate the deep transformational work. All you have to do is lay down and let the vibrations soothe you to sleep. The tones of the Sun gong will work to revitalize and relax you helping to ground the experience into every cell. You will leave the session with a personal practice (handouts supplied)should you wish to deepen the experience and continue with the kriyas at home for even more profound results.

Heart Centered Wealth ‘In Anahata (heart) chakra, the freedom to escape from a preordained fate and to determine one’s own destiny becomes the reality. According to the tantras, at the root of anahata, there is a wish-fulfilling tree and when this tree starts to fructify, whatever you think or wish comes true… All sorts of thoughts concerning the body, children, wife, family, monetary, social, economic or political situations come to us all the time. If kundalini is asleep, these thoughts have no power, but when kundalini awakens in anahata chakra, all these thoughts suddenly become realities.’ -Satyananda Saraswati We will warm up the body with hatha yoga and practice a kriya as taught by Yogi Bhajan designed to free the kundalini energy to open the heart center. Which allows you to step into life's opportunity in a sweet invigorating way. The session will be mentally and physically challenging but will not require any former Kundalini Yoga experience, Just will power, stamina and determination. The more energy and commitment you put in, the greater the benefits and the deeper the effects will penetrate. In this kriya, we will explore the Naad (sacred sound current) with a specific prosperity mantra in conjunction with movements specifically designed to unlock hidden potential within heart centered energy and tap into the profound power of gratitude.

Abundance Within Self The mother goddess Lakshmi is a symbol of beauty, prosperity and good fortune. Lakshmi brings spiritual and material wealth and abundance. Lakshmi’s four hands link her to four qualities that make transformation in human life possible. The principles of dharma, kāma, artha and moksha will be weaved into this empowering practice. These four qualities are united in the goddess, making her an inspirational figure for abundance. She is also commonly depicted with a lotus, a flower that grows out of mud and symbolizes refinement and the evolution to greater self-realization. In this balanced practice we invoke Lakshmi’s qualities by focusing our attention on the support and abundance that we can tap into — knowing that you have everything you need right now. As we move thru standing and balance postures, we connect into our second sacral chakra – svadhisthana. A deep opening practice with plenty of sweetness thrown in.

WildCore™ Pull in Your Power The first step in cultivating abundance is to have clarity of what you are calling into your life and second the power to take action toward the goal. In my work as a massage therapist, a healing movement teacher and in my own life experience I have felt and witnessed the many ways we leak energy and essentially give our power away. This WildCore experience will help identify these places and through meditation, movement and expressive journaling offer tools to claim what is rightfully yours. Pull in you power will be dance/yoga based movements that will lead you both on and off your mat, be ready to sweat and empower your body, mind and spirit.

Holly Walker
Chakra Mandala Painting Participants will be led through a visualization exercise aimed at exploring their chakras and identifying specific chakra issues. From the insight gained through this visualization, participants will create their own chakra paintings with watercolor paints.

Red Tent Healing Circle: Things We Don't Talk About The Red Tent is a global movement honoring a women’s womb wisdom, natural rhythms and her connection to the moon cycle. This is an ancient sacred practice that women have been participating in for thousands of years. Women would gather in huts in order to bleed together. When a woman is menstruating, she is more connected to the universal flow. This was the time where a woman's psychic abilities were enhanced, and she would have visions and make prophesies about her village. People would seek her out for guidance. A woman's "moon time" is a sacred time, and many cultures around the world look at menstrual blood as powerful and sacred. This is not something to feel ashamed of anymore! We reclaim ourselves as powerful women with unique gifts to offer to the world. We come together at the new moon in sacred ceremony to set our intentions in order to manifest positive change in our lives. We open space in order to facilitate spiritual transformation within ourselves and our sisters. We celebrate all stages of life, including maidenhood, motherhood and wise woman or crone stages. This means that even if you do not bleed anymore, you still have an inherent womb wisdom and we welcome and celebrate you! We set intention to have a heartfelt connection with other women, and to develop a sisterhood where we can all support and uplift each other. We celebrate and embrace all the facets of the goddess energy within each of us. This is an opportunity to rest, relax, reset and nourish our souls. In this workshop there will be meditation, gentle movement, group singing and sharing circle. The result is deep and powerful, the participants are allowed to share in a deep way, be held by the energy of the facilitator and the circle and heal in unexpected and beautiful ways.

Dharma Talk Discussion on Sutra 2.39 “Acknowledging abundance (aparigraha) we recognize the blessings in everything and gain insights into the purpose for our worldly existence.”  Nischala Joy Devi, In this dharma talk we examine and discuss Sutra 2.39 “recognize the blessings in everything”. That means that even when we hurt or struggle, even when we are frustrated or feel tremendous lack, that we see the inherent opportunity to “acknowledge abundance”.

Authentic Relating Appetizer Join me just before three of our mealtimes for some fun connecting.  You will experience a playful exercise that deepens our connections with each other by shifting out of “doing” and into “being”, shifting from past/future into the present, and from critical focus to appreciative focus.  The exact activity for each appetizer will depend on the size of the group and what feels alive in the moment to explore.  Meet new people and connect deeper with those you know!  Take away an insight to apply in your communications with others.

Circling Go beyond the appetizer for the main course!  Learn some valuable take home secrets to connecting deeply with others while expanding your community at YogaFeast.  Circling is a relational practice designed to allow a visceral experience of connection and understanding another person’s world, celebrating who and where they are right now. It’s practicing using our genuine curiosity to better understand and become a connoisseur of another person’s world though present moment awareness.  We will have several circling sessions with limited slots.  Sign up for one of these spaces on the bulletin board.

Yoga Nidra means yogic sleep. A state of conscious deep sleep for extreme relaxation and subtler spiritual exploration. It is a unique marriage of science and spirit, taking your brain to the alpha state and eventually the even deeper theta wave state. It is used in helping prevent illness, retard premature aging, reduce stress, induce more restful sleep, boost the immune system, and promote healing.

Gong Bath Limited Space (Sign Up at the Feast)
We've heard so much response from our Dream Time Sound Healing Sessions that some folks just NEED......MORE GONG. This is a pure gong sound bath session where we can show case these beauties. We typically don't excite the gongs to this level in our normal DreamTime sessions as it is an acquired taste, and craving that eventually does build up through coming regularly. The more folks come the more they crave those BIG vibrations. The gongs have the power to vibrate the air in the room as well as the folks soaking in it. Hence, the Gong "Bath".

Signing For the Soul
Singing with others is the timeless ritual of coming together to co-create a rich musical and spiritual experience through voice. Together we will take a journey through songs about nature, life, love, emotions, activism, peace and the overall human experience. Songs are taught in the oral tradition of call and response. No singing or musical experience is necessary. Come with a desire to use your voice, learn songs, and connect joyfully through singing with others.

Gypsy Divas
Dance Performance  Every time the Gypsy Diva's perform there is a unique story of inspiration, original costuming, a dynamic mix of core ladies and guests, world music and the expression of the ancient art of dance.  This summer the Diva's will be offering a Candle dance.  In each of the dancer's hands is a candle within a glass orb, so the dance has a sense of delicate power, grace and intricate patterning to bring joy to the audience. Dancing with the living flame with a group of women has a very ancient thread that is woven through the hearts of the audience.
